A collection of approximately 60 minerals purchased from the Wyvill family in August 2016.
The collection was formerly resident at Constable Burton Hall near Leyburn, North Yorkshire, UK.
Having contacted the Wyvill family and researched some of the contemporary finds it would appear the collection has its foundation in the early C19th with pieces from Wheal Maudlin, and Middlehope Shield having very specific dates in literature.
The family were unable to give any more information, nor does a catalogue/labels exist for any of the specimens.
I doubt this was all the original collection; based on the exceptional quality/localities of some of the pieces someone knew about minerals, therefore unlikely to have stopped at 60 and not included other items around at the time.
With a rough date and the assistance of the Wyvill family tree the collection could have belonged to a number of the family in the different generations in the early nineteenth century.
