Description

Black microcrystalline chromite with green microcrystals of grossular of the variety hibschite. Typical "Transvaal Jade" or “Bushveld Jade” that is a garnetite and chromitite from the Bushveld Complex, originated by metamorphism of very old Paleoproterozoic rocks (~2000 million years old). Ex. René Virlet specimen.

Obtained in 1962 from Gilbert Gauthier, who carried out a collecting/buying trip in the early 1960’s to Northern Rhodesia (Zambia), Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), South Africa and South West Africa (Namibia).
