Unakite

About

A low to medium-temperature metasomatic rock mostly formed by the alteration of granitic rocks; principally composed of epidote, K-feldspar and quartz.

Named for the Unaka Range in North Carolina, where unakite was first collected for its colour and interest as a lapidary product.

Since it was first collected other material has been collected in Mexico, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Brazil, China, India and Australia.
