Description

Hilarionite is a very rare hydrated iron sulfate arsenate hydroxide, unique to this mine in the ancient Lavrion District. It is a new species, approved in November, 2011. It was firstly discovered from my wife at the Elbin place at the 3. level of Hilarion mine in 1999. In those days the analytical method was not as good as nowadays. Dr. Schlüter from Hamburg who made the first analyse of this stuff mentioned to us, that he is sure, that this is a new species, but he is inable to prove it. And so he called it an iron-rich kankite. Back to the specimen. Pretty green, fuzzy botryoids cover the gossan matrix on this very rich, colorful and excellent example of this new described, very rare species.
