Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Class:
Crystal Group/Cluster
Size Range:
Miniature (4.5-7 cm)
Size:
6.5 × 5.1 × 4.2 cm
Description

Superb and very rare locality specimen of pinkish calcite. It is a floater, elongated hemispherical aggregate with the surface formed by interpenetrated rhombohedral crystals with rounded ends, that shows a light pink fluorescence under long UV light. The rear side is detached off the matrix, with some remains of the matrix but complete, no damages.

It was collected in January/2000 by the Dutch collector Bert Biemold. He remember that the exact locality was a small quarry for construction materials, very close to the Dutch embassy in Addis Ababa, because he was able to walk from there.
