Balegem, Antwerp Province, Belgium

Massive/Crystalline
Size Range:
Small miniature (3-4.5 cm)

3.9 × 2.8 × 1.3 cm
Description

Shark tooth of Lower Miocene age from the classic sand quarry at Balegem in Antwerpen. The root is partially imbibed up to the shoulder in the sandstone matrix, which is uncommon, leaving the crown perfectly visible displaying a lustrous cream-coloured enamel.

Furthermore, I picked up this specimen out of hundreds, loose teeth with chippings, so the condition is very good.

According to the collector who found this tooth in 1999, the specimen has not been cleaned, so it is as it was found.
