Description

A classic from Turkey from the famous copper deposits of Murgul: extremely lustrous octahedral pyrite crystals settle in strongly altered felsic tuff. This locality was famous for very interesting and rare face combinations of pyrite, particularly combinations of octahedron and pyritohedron. Larger matrix specimen are very scarce as the hosting tuff is heavily altered into clay minerals. This one is from the late 1970s and was collected by H.J. Wilke, who wrote about Murgul in LAPIS (1979).
