Description

Pyrite is certainly perceived as a commonplace mineral and this specimen is definitely not a real beauty for the species. In Tsumeb though pyrite - and particularly well-crystallized pyrite - is quite rare as iron is scarce within the polymetallic base metal deposit. Crystals larger than a few mm are rare. This is a cluster of lustrous, in majority incomplete but distinct brass-yellow crystals associated with blackish partly altered sulfide which may be chalcocite (not tested). Ex Grosch collection.
