Description

A piece of Elaeolite with the typical greasy luster (Fatstone, Oilstone).

Name introduced by Karsten and Klaproth (1809) for a mineral from the the syenite-pegmatite-dykes at Friedrichswärn (= Stavern), Norway, which was later shown to be identical with nepheline. However, the name was used as a variety of nepheline during the 19th century (cit. mindat).

Comes with old label of the Mineralien-Niederlage (Freiberg Mining Academy Mineral Dealership) Freiberg, Saxony, Germany. Founded in 1756, it is now part of the mining college Freiberg. This is hand-written by Felix Otto Edelmann, who was administrator in the period of 1920 - 1952.
