Description

Here we have an interesting, typical so-called 'Schalenblende' specimen showing beginning skeletal or dendritic structures of galena embedded in dark brown sphalerite - the so-called 'Strickblende'. The backside shows botryoidal and stalacmitic shapes.

Strickblende (literally: knitted sphalerite) is a skeletal grown galena enclosed in banded, colloform sphalerite. The Stolberg - Altenberg - Kelmis mining area at the border of Germany and Belgium is famous for these odd specimens which are are increasingly rare on the markets.
