Description

Ludwigite is a not so common Mg-Fe borate. Here is an interesting historic sample of black ludwigite on magnetite from Moravica mining district in modern Serbia.

Comes with original hand-written label of Augustin Alexis Damour (1808-1902), a well-known french mineralogist. His personal mineral collection was sold to F. Krantz (who was in charge of the Krantz mineral dealership between 1891 and 1926), probably shortly after his death.
And it comes with a second hand-written label of Émile Bertrand. He was a mineralogist, mining engineer, mineral dealer and collector in Paris in the late 19th century and one of the founders of the French Mineralogical Society, and served twice as its president. The mineral bertrandite was name in his honor by Damour in 1883. Damour on the other hand had bought quite a lot of specimens for his own collection at Bertrand's mineralogical dealership.

The Banat is a historical region in Southeastern Europe, which today is located in the states of Romania, Serbia and Hungary.
