Description

Another fantastic piece from the "Knappenloch" - found in summer 2022: the crystals show a beautiful intense violet color on the outside and a deep blue to cyan color on the inside. This color build-up causes the fluorite to change color as the piece is moved. The crystal surfaces show a fine square texture with a silky luster due to water etching. Two distinctive features of this new find can be observed in the crystal domain: the dark purple spots, most likely from radioactive radiation, and isolated bright intergrown Hahnenkamm barites in the surface of the fluorite. The piece is etched or crystallized all around with beautiful structures - no new fresh damage. First and third photo with medium LED backlight. This find is published in the current The Mineralogical Record - Mineral Magazine Vol.54 No.6.2. On my homepage you will find a detailed report with videos from this find.
